Youth Services Department Re-Opens Peer Center

By February 2, 2026No Comments

Our Youth Services Department has officially re-opened their peer-led, youth-designed space, affectionately called “The Harbor” last month! This space, located in our Mill Park Clinic, offers activities and connection to youth who have been involved in the foster care system.

The Harbor contains a computer area, musical instruments, puzzles and games, a  central relaxing space, and a crafts section with tools such as a sewing machine.

Em was one of the peer mentors who helped reimagine The Harbor, as part of a youth-led  committee. Em shared a little bit about the space during the grand re-opening, saying, “Unlike the systems I experienced growing up, this space isn’t about checking boxes or fitting people into pre-determined paths. It’s about flexibility, choice, and meeting people where they are. They get to be a person first.”

Em continued, saying, “People don’t stop belonging here once they stop receiving resources. We acknowledge that growth continues long after someone exits services, and that community should not be conditional.”

Guests at the grand opening left encouraging messages on a blackboard on the wall to encourage the youth visiting the space. We are excited for the future memories and friendships The Harbor will inspire!
