Maple House offers hope to residents seeking mental health support
On Monday, December 2, 2024, our community gathered to celebrate the grand opening of Maple House as the newest residential treatment facility to join New Narrative’s portfolio and the third to open this year behind Jade House and Magnolia House!
Maple House is an 11-bed facility located in Gresham which will focus on providing comprehensive, person-centered care for individuals transitioning from the Oregon State Hospital or other levels of care. It will be staffed by a team of full-time residential staff, qualified mental health professionals (QMHP), clinical case managers, and peer support services, all on-site. Residents will have 24/7 access to staff at Maple House. The facility is made possible through a partnership with Oregon Health Authority, Behavioral Health Division and funding from the Oregon State Legislature.
A Warm Community Welcome
New Narrative CEO Julie Ibrahim gave remarks in the sunlit dining area during the opening. “Maple House will be the 14th residential facility at New Narrative and is part of our ongoing commitment to meet the growing need for residential treatment in our community and our state.” She also shared the wider vision of facilities like Maple House and their place in behavioral health care:
“At New Narrative, we know that mental healthcare is a lot more than treatment. It’s about building pathways to brighter futures, and that is what Maple House is all about. It’s designed to be a safe, welcoming space where individuals can receive the care they need to reclaim their lives. It’s a place where people facing some of the toughest mental health challenges can come to receive person-centered care and support that will help them heal and move forward and live the life they choose.”
Oregon State Representative Ricki Ruiz of District 50 (Gresham) was also present and offered his congratulations as well as a personal tie to mental health. “As a Latino man, talking about mental health is taboo in our community, in our culture.” He continued, “Maple House is not just a building, but a beacon of hope for those who need it the most. Maple House is a testament to what we can accomplish when we prioritize the needs of our most vulnerable neighbors. It offers a critical safety net. These beds are more than just a place to sleep; they represent stability, healing, and a fresh start for individuals who might otherwise fall through the cracks.”
Oregon Council of Behavioral Health (OCBH) Executive Director Heather Jefferis also offered her congratulations and spoke warmly about the long-standing partnership between New Narrative and OCBH, of which Julie Ibrahim is currently a board member.
Community impact
New Narrative currently operates 14 residential treatment sites counting Maple House, housing 107 residents at any time. This residential treatment offers a full range of services for residents as part of a comprehensive treatment plan. As the need for residential treatment beds continues, New Narrative will continue to address the shortage of beds as funding allows. We look forward to serving more neighbors in need moving into the new year!
Funding is critical as we consider opportunities for expansion of services in the Portland metro region. Please consider New Narrative in your year-end giving to make an even bigger impact on our mental health and housing crisis!
